Job Requirements:

Under the supervision of the Center Team Leader and Operations Supervisor, greets and supplies information to donors, patients, staff, and other visitors as appropriate at the center front desk or by telephone.  Provides general assistance to the staff and works on delivering all assistance rendered in a cordial manner thereby conveying to all the philosophy of the center as a warm and caring collection facility.  Also will determine donor eligibility based on donor medical histories.  Duties include but are not limited to:  receptionist, data entry, donor registration, refreshments, waiting area reading material, scheduling appointments for donors and patients, and handling mail. Job Requirements:

Performs all advanced testing procedures on Immunohematology work including, antigen and, special donor typings.  Resolves discrepancies per Immunohematology SOPs.  Works closely with the Immunohematology Supervisor in the maintenance of the Rare Unit Frozen Inventory to ensure an adequate supply for patients. Prepares special products such as freezing of RBC, deglycerolization of frozen RBC, washed platelets and washing of RBC. Offers input and technical advice to member hospitals based on individual level of Immunohematology experience and knowledge.  Performs searches for antigen screened units, performs testing and cross matching, and distributes to hospitals upon request. Also performs other tasks as required. Call rotation included. 

Special Requirements:

(Licenses, degrees held, related experience): MLT or MT (ASCP certified) and one year related specialized experience.  Candidates must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing and may need to provide college transcripts for review. 

Skills:  Capable of utilizing laboratory equipment for advanced and/or highly specialized testing with a level of understanding that is demonstrated by experience and/or theoretical knowledge gained by credentials and immuno specialization. Primary responsibilities include performing product quality control per AABB standards.  Duties include: obtaining platelet count using Sysmex, the ability to split platelet apheresis product depending on the count, determining hematocrit using the Sysmex, or a micro hematocrit centrifuge and corresponding graph, obtaining residual WBC counts using Flowcytometer, and performing bacterial detection of platelet products.  Must be able to enter data into spreadsheet and determine product suitability and produce reports, documentation and communications using employer provided resources. Must possess knowledge of lab and quality assurance principles and regulations.  Will be expected to adhere to the lab’s established quality control policies and follow safety procedures and must demonstrate competency and proficiency in testing procedures to ensure cGMPs of Heartland’s products.  Will communicate with all levels of personnel at Heartland Blood Centers

Provides leadership and direction for developing, implementing, and executing quality assurance processes and practices that support the manufacture of FDA-regulated biologic (blood and tissue) products, CLIA regulated diagnostic testing, and other related regulated activities.  The Quality Assurance and Compliance Director primary responsibility is to lead the QA/RA function and ensure that all activities meet regulatory requirements and result in high quality, safe and effective products and services.  In addition, the Director will be a member of the Quality Leadership team for a system of affiliates.

Special Requirements:
