Provides administrative support functions to the Heartland Blood Centers (HBC) leadership team. The position will require some analysis and use of initiative, discretion, and independent judgment with frequent access to confidential and complex information related to the operational areas. Must have an in-depth understanding of corporate policy, procedures and projects in process and may be called upon to interpret and communicate the Leader’s intent to others. Must work with a high degree of independence with minimal direction/supervision.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or other relevant field preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience supporting Director level or above. Three years in office coordination preferred.
Full Time – Monday-Thursday: 12:00 pm- 8:30 pm and Saturday: 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Under supervision of the Supervisor is responsible for recruiting donors by telephone who have previously donated with Heartland Blood Centers. Primary calling responsibilities are for in-center and fixed drawing sites and donor contact is made following protocols and scripts developed by management.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Customer service experience preferred.

Will conduct and determine donor suitability and draw blood from donors in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Other duties may be assigned by the Team Leader in charge.

Under the supervision of the Center Team Leader, Operations Supervisor and Assistant Director of Donor Services, pleasantly greets and supplies information to donors, patients, staff, and other visitors as appropriate at the center front desk or by telephone. Provides general assistance to the staff and works on delivering all assistance rendered in a cordial manner thereby conveying to all the philosophy of the center as a warm and caring collection facility.
High school diploma or the equivalent with some customer service experience and data entry preferred.
Under the supervision of the Hospital Services management, processes phone orders, labels blood components as ordered, prepares/packs product for delivery, and documents all product orders and deliveries as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures and departmental procedures. Routes the Distribution Drivers.
High school diploma or the equivalent required. Some college preferred. One to six months related experience and/or training. Must meet IEMA/NRC criteria for ‘trustworthy and reliable’ in order to operate the Blood Irradiator. If making occasional pickups and/or deliveries, must meet current Heartland Blood Centers MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) criteria.
Under the supervision of the Hospital Services management, prepares quality biological blood components within the prescribed time following regulatory and operational standards as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures and departmental procedures. Prepares additive and non-additive RBCs, Fresh Frozen Plasma, Recovered Plasma, and Platelet Concentrates. Prepares Neonatal RBCs. Sterile docks Pedipaks to Platelet Apheresis, Neonatal RBCs and FFPs. Performs leukoreduction of Whole Bloods and RBCs. Manufactures Cryoprecipitate, Pooled Cryoprecipitate and Cryo Reduced Plasma. Performs product labeling. Manufactures additional specialty products as needed by customer base. Follows SOPs pertaining to the proper storage of RBCs, platelet products and frozen products. Logs pertaining to product manufacturing and manipulation. Per SOPs, equipment involved in the manufacture or manipulation of blood products (i.e., electronic scales, centrifuges, tube sealers, product storage devices, sterile docking equipment, etc.).
High school diploma or the equivalent, some college preferred. One to six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. If making occasional pickups and/or deliveries, must meet current Heartland Blood Centers MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) criteria.
Under the direction of the End User Computing Manager, the EUCS (End User Computing Specialist) works independently to implement and maintain the Versiti End User Computing technical infrastructure in collaboration with peers and other PC specialists across Versiti. The EUCS is also responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of End User computing platforms and systems.
Bachelor’s degree in MIS (Management Information Systems), engineering preferred or equivalent experience. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), or Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) preferred. ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundation Certification preferred. Minimum of 5 years’ experience with personal computers and mobile devices in a networked environment. Minimum of 3 years of LAN/WAN support in a professional work environment. Demonstrated expertise managing and configuring MS WinXP, Win7, Win10, Active Directory, Exchange and Office 365 environments. Demonstrated expertise with VMWare. Demonstrated expertise with VoIP / IP Telephony systems – Cisco preferred. Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft SCCM used for image and software deployment.
Under direction of the Manager of Immunohematology Reference Laboratory, performs advanced immunohematology testing on clinical and research specimens for the resolution of serologic problems. Performs and interprets molecular testing on clinical and research specimens if applicable to the laboratory. Perform blood product component preparation if applicable to the laboratory. Provides the most appropriate blood in a timely and accurate manner. Handles and processes specimens, ensuring proper identification. Performs serologic and molecular tests according to QSD/SOP on clinical, study, QC and research samples. Recognizes and resolves procedural discrepancies in testing results. Interprets laboratory results. Reports laboratory results. Performs secondary review of test results and provides feedback to ensure accurate reporting of results. Maintains accurate and complete records. Operates laboratory equipment correctly and perform quality control testing on equipment and reagents. Knows acceptable levels of performance. Adheres to all required FDA, AABB (American Association of Blood Banks),CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and CAP (College of American Pathology) regulations. Follows cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) standards. Maintains controlled inventories of reagents and laboratory materials. Provides on call and/or overtime coverage as required.
Two year degree from an accredited college, university or technical college in a Medical Laboratory Technician program with an MLT certification.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, or related fields with courses in general biology, chemistry, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry. Must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing. Minimum of one year experience working in an Immunohematology reference laboratory or transfusion service required.
Under the direction of the Manager of Immunohematology Reference Laboratory, provides on-site leadership and mentorship, guidance on operational issues, daily work direction, work review, staff development, training, and staff scheduling. In conjunction with lab management, ensures the integration of new tests into operational processes. Performs advanced immunohematology and molecular testing and interpretation, and provides phone consultation to customers. Assists management in providing leadership to the laboratory. This position has developed and demonstrated a level of competence and leadership skills that allows for completing and coordinating work in a highly independent and efficient manner and handling complex issues. Manages workflow and direct activities to ensure that turnaround time goals are met. Prepares and manages staff schedule, and leads daily huddles. Provide constructive feedback to technologists in regard to errors detected and acknowledgement for exceptional work completion. Performs all functions of IRL Technologist position. Coordinates training plan for technologists. Manages proficiency testing events, including assignment to technologists, review of results, obtaining signatures and submission by due date. Participates in review, investigation and corrective action based on report if required. Coordinates the training of current and new staff members in all areas of the department, including continuing education. Reviews daily work and interpretations for accuracy, and recognizes and investigates the reason for potential discrepancies and unexpected results, resolving where appropriate. Assists in the preparation of new/updates QSDs/SOPs in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. Performs all functions of IRL Technologist position. In the absence of the manager serves as the main point of contact for the laboratory. Provides on call and/or overtime coverage as required.
Bachelors of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology (MLS/CLS/MT) or science related degree with certification as a BB technologist. MLS/CLS/MT/BB American Society for Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) certification required or equivalent. SBB certification or a minimum of 5 years of experience in an IRL or transfusion service required. Must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing and General Supervisor.
Minimum of three years’ experience working in an immunohematology reference laboratory or transfusion service required.
Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision or oversight of QC lab personnel and reporting all QC test results. Responsibilities include scheduling, supervising staff, managing projects, ensuring compliance with FDA and other oversight agency regulations, following cGMPs, developing and maintaining vendor relationships, and integrating operations with other blood bank processes as appropriate. Will be directly involved in the QC lab oversight of Donor Services use of PocHi instruments.
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology required. Certification in Medical Technology MLT/MT (ASAP) preferred. Must meet CLIA requirements for a General Supervisor in a High Complexity Laboratory. At least one (1) year experience in blood bank testing and services. Must possess thorough knowledge of cGMP and FDA regulations and general knowledge of blood bank operations. Hematology and chemistry background a plus.
The Facilities Manger provides a high level of on-site leadership to the facilities and equipment management teams that continuously maintains assigned facilities, vehicles, and biomedical equipment in an effective, safe, comfortable, and visually pleasing condition, using the methods, tools, and support provided by Heartland Blood Centers. This position holds primary responsibility for assuring that the quality of all Facility Services provided to the blood center are delivered in the highest quality manner possible. The Facilities Manager is also responsible for all regulatory and accreditation compliance requirements related to the buildings, systems, and various codes. Handling large and small unexpected emergencies is a routine part of this position’s activities.
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or management required (or equivalent experience) desired. Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification preferred, or other nationally recognized certification pertaining to Facilities Management acceptable as an alternative to the CHFM preferred. CDL license required. Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in healthcare facilities management, or related field.
Performs instrument maintenance of the cell counting equipment and maintains quality control spreadsheets. Performs quality control of platelet apheresis, double red cells, and leukoreduced products. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of the hematology analyzer, BacT Alert, flow cytometer, or other quality control equipment, including but not limited to the following responsibilities: documentation and maintenance of records for the monthly QC of platelets, double red cell, CPDA-1 Hematocrits, and leukoreduced components, assists in the resolution of instrument and equipment problems, and seeks help from QC Lab Supervisor and Quality Control Specialist as required. Executes quality plans under the direction of the QC specialist and QC Lab Supervisor for laboratory functions including but not limited to: proficiency testing, parallel studies as needed, Validation plans as needed, Quality control tests required by procedure and appropriate data recording, and analysis of quality control data and application and documentation of corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Completes the Apheresis Lot Release form. Perform residual leukoreduction counts using automated equipment such as Flow Cytometry. Determine the pH of platelet apheresis components using pH paper and a pH meter. Participates in weekend, holiday, and on call rotation, along with call in schedule. Includes other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, life sciences, engineering with science minor, scientific discipline, or allied health science discipline. 2-4 years’ experience in a technical or quality/regulatory support capacity for a blood center, laboratory, or transfusion service preferred. Experience with technical writing and conducting audits preferred.Associates degree in Laboratory Science or sixty (60) semester hours completed toward Bachelor’s Degree (actively enrolled), with twenty four (24) semester hours in science six (6) in chemistry, six (6) in biology, and twelve (12) in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology preferred. Must meet CLIA requirements for moderate complexity testing. Minimum of one (1) year lab related work experience required.
