HEARTLAND BLOOD CENTERS LAUNCHES NEW PROGRAM FOR BLOOD DONORS

For more information contact Amy Smith, Heartland Blood Centers’ Director of In-House Recruitment at 630.801.3149.

Join our LifeSavers program that rewards our dedicated platelet donors and encourages new and existing donors to try this special type of donation at selected center locations (see center locations below).  The program, called Lifesavers Club, was created to increase the frequency of platelet-specific donations which will result in a better blood product for the patient.  Any donor who qualifies for a platelet donation is eligible for this program.

A platelet donation is collected using a process called apheresis.  Apheresis allows Heartland to remove a specific component of the blood, such as platelets, and return the remaining components, such as red blood cells and plasma, to the donor.  A single, sterile needle is used for the procedure and the needle for apheresis is smaller than with a whole blood donation.  Platelets are primarily used for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment.

Because platelet donations are not as common as a whole blood donation, Heartland Blood Centers hopes to better educate our donors about this donation through our Lifesavers Club program.

With the Lifesavers Club, donors will be awarded points for each donation that is made.  Based on the number of times a donor gives an apheresis product, they have an opportunity to earn special thank you gifts including a Premium Stadium Blanket , Quality Zip-up Hooded Sweatshirt, Stainless Steel Water Bottle, $100 Hallmark Incentive Gift Card* or a $300 Hallmark Incentive Gift Card*.  To find out more, stop by or contact one of the participating locations below.

*The Hallmark Insights Gift Card will be ordered for you after you have completed the required number or donations.  The gift card can be redeemed at one or several of the approved National Merchants listed on the Hallmark Insights Web Site.

Every three seconds a patient needs life-sustaining donated blood.  To keep up with the demand in the

12-county area that Heartland Blood Centers serves, Heartland must collect 550 pints of voluntarily donated blood every day.
